Engine Ignition System Tuneup

You are aware of various kinds of tune ups opted for the repair and maintenance of a car. It is crucial for a car to function in a proper manner. You must have heard about the term “Ignition System” many times. Do you know what exactly it is? It is the group of components which work together in the process of ignition. Ignition system maintenance is one of the major tune ups which include replacement of distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs. These all are the constituents of the ignition system.

Ignition coil generates the spark which is very powerful. This spark is powerful enough to ignite the fuel’s vapor. Once the spark gets generated, it is passed to spark plugs with the help of distributor. A distributor is a kind of spinner which spins to distribute the spark equally on each spark plug at the right time.

The distributor basically is comprised of a coil wire and a rotor. The spark is transmitted to the spinning rotor via coil wire which receives it first.

Now you must be wondering what takes the spark from the distributor to the spark plugs then the answer is spark plug wires. These wires take the spark to the spark plug wires from the contact point on the distributor cap.

The end of the spark plugs is sitting on the cylinder head as these plugs are screwed into it. After release of a right amount of fuel vapor and air into the cylinder, at the right time the spark plug produces a blue hot spark which ignites the mixture to create combustion.

The whole sequence of processes is handled by computers which are called ignition modules or ignition control modules. Now-a-days these modules are used in place of old techniques in which the distributor relied on the mechanical intuition to spark at the right time. If the module’s performance declines then the only way out is its replacement. It cannot be maintained or repaired.
