Inspecting Car Brakes

Do you love your car and do not want to spend lots of bucks on it every time you repair? Then conduct a regular tune up of your car. There are many essential parts which should be checked on a scheduled basis to avoid their complete wear and tear, further causing malfunctioning of your car. Brakes are one of the most crucial parts which need regular inspection. Brakes are the most important safety device on your car.

Inspecting the brakes is not that difficult. You can easily examine the brakes by removing the wheel. In some cars you not even need to remove the wheels. You can peep through the spaces in the middle of the wheels. By peeping through these holes you can properly assess the brakes. The main goodies you have to look for are the brake pads and the big shiny disc. Make sure the view should be clear enough, no matter if it needs the removal of the wheel.

Inspecting the Brake disc- While inspecting brakes, you should look at the brake disc first. It should be uniformly shiny from inner to the outer edge. If some slight lines come into your notice do not panic as this is due to normal wear. But if any kind of rough spot or any groove comes into your notice then it is the time to replace the brake discs. Always replace the brake discs in pairs otherwise your driving and safety will suffer.

Inspecting the Brake pads- These pads touch the outer part of the disc while looking from the surface to the top of the disc. You have to change your old pads with new ones when there is only 1/8” or less remaining on the pad. Replacing the brake pads is a very simple job.

Now, examine the brake lines. These lines should be smooth and soft, not rigid and cracked. The brake lines should be replaced with new ones if there are any cracks present in the brake lines. Simultaneously check for any kind of corrosion in the hard metal lines and if corroded, replace them immediately. They get corroded due to the chemicals used on the roads during snow and ice removal.
